Often organisations don’t fully appreciate the differences between Process Safety vs Personal Safety. Understanding how these two safety elements interact to ensure critical controls are effective can be extremely valuable.
While both are crucial, there are several myths surrounding these concepts that need to be debunked.
Read more on our recent learning on Process Safety and Personal Safety from visiting an oil and gas facilities in Papua New Guinea as part of a critical control review

We recently partnered with the Health and Safety Index to assist a white collar (Organisation) with a broad health “and” safety review, with a particular focus on mental health in the workplace.
The overall Psychosocial Dx result for the Organisation was less than 70 or “Developing”. Positive experiences were identified with remote workers, respect for diverse cultures, and favourable workplace conditions. However, challenges stemming from work demands, management of change and job design, and work conflict significantly hindered overall psychosocial performance.

Critical Risk Management
Resources Safety & Health Queensland are currently seeking consultation on the Resources Safety and Health Legislation Amendment Bill which proposes legislative amendments to the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 to include Critical Control Management as a legal requirement.
The move to potentially legislating critical controls, with supported guidance and engagement activities from the regulator, highlights the importance to all organisations to take a risk-based approach to focus on the critical few.
By concentrating on the critical few, we observe many organisations lift the monitoring compliance burden through shifting to Quality, not Quantity. As a result, frontline operations often feel time and resources are spent more on important high-risk activities that are relevant.
For further information on Critical Risk Management refer to our blogs covering proposed legal changes and 3 tips to Critical Risk Management.
